Third Molar Surgery (Wisdom Teeth)
Surgical Removal of Third Molars.
At NorthernStar OMS, the surgical removal of third molars—commonly known as wisdom teeth—is one of the most routine oral surgery procedures we perform. Wisdom teeth typically erupt in the late teens or early twenties. When there is insufficient space in the jaw, teeth may become impacted and misaligned, rendering them non-functional. This misalignment can create unhygienic conditions that are difficult to manage for you and your dentist. If left untreated for many years, wisdom teeth can develop cavities and bone loss, leading to pain and potential infection, which can affect the adjacent functional second molars.
What to Expect During Surgery.
At Northern Star OMS, every procedure starts with a consultation. We take digital X-rays if not already provided and review your health history to create a personalized treatment plan. Most wisdom teeth surgeries are performed in our office under IV anesthesia for your comfort. The oral surgeon makes a small incision, removes the tooth, and places sutures to aid healing. The procedure typically takes less than an hour, depending on the number and position of the teeth.
