Northern Star Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
Dear Colleagues and Patients,
As the COVID-19 crisis continues, we have continue to gain clarity on guidelines for practice. Northern Star Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery is committed to doing our part to decrease spread of coronavirus and conserve PPE (personal protective equipment), but we also need to take care of patients in need.
The mandate that emergency procedures only be performed was issued by executive order of Governor Walz. The most recent recommendation from the ADA (American Dental Association) extends this to April 30, 2020. Procedures that are of an emergency nature can be and need to be performed. If you are experiencing intractable dental/oral pain or swelling, and have a regular general dentist, please contact them first to be evaluated to determine if you require oral surgery. If your dentist is not available, we are available to consult with you. All consults will be done in a virtual setting via a Telehealth meeting to create a plan of care fo you. Please do not seek care at an Urgent Care facility or Emergency Room without going through these channels first.
We are able to offer Telehealth meeting for some non-urgent needs, such as wisdom tooth removal. For more information please call our office.
Hospitals and emergency first responders are already experiencing limited supplies of masks, gowns, hand sanitizer, etc. and we will surely see this worsen as we see more hospital admissions in Minnesota due to COVID-19. If we can conserve our PPE supplies by not performing unnecessary procedures, we will be able to help our colleagues on the front lines.
Extraordinary times call for extraordinary measures and we at Northern Star OMS are committed to the well being of patients and the well being of the public at large. We will continue to update the website with any new information as it comes available.
