Northern Star Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery LLC
Your Expert Oral Surgeon
For established patients, after-hours urgent care is available.

Conveniently located in St. Louis Park—right on the border of Minneapolis—we proudly serve patients from across the Twin Cities. Led by Dr. Julie Chavez and Dr. David Basi, our talented team is dedicated to delivering technically advanced care while maintaining a personal, approachable experience.
Northern Star Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery LLC is intentionally a small, boutique-style practice. We focus on personalized care and long-term relationships. Each of our surgeons brings more than 20 years of experience in oral and maxillofacial surgery, allowing us to manage both routine and complex procedures with confidence and thoughtful judgment. Patients benefit from continuity of care, direct access to their surgeon, and treatment plans tailored to their individual needs—not a one-size-fits-all approach.
We specialize in services such as dental implants, wisdom teeth removal, bone grafting, oral pathology, and corrective jaw surgery, providing care for both adults and children. Because we understand that oral surgery can cause anxiety, our office is designed to make every visit as comfortable and reassuring as possible. To support your comfort and safety, we offer a full range of anesthesia options—from nitrous oxide and IV sedation to general anesthesia—delivered with the highest standards of care.

Before establishing her own practice in 2009, Dr. Chavez worked in a group practice from 2000 to 2008. She enjoys all aspects of oral and maxillofacial surgery and treats patients of all ages.
She has a special interest in orthognathic (reconstructive jaw) surgery, cleft palate rehabilitation, and dental implant surgery. She served as a member of the Cleft Palate Team at Children’s Hospital and Clinics in Minneapolis from 2003-2024. She has also developed a keen interest in surgeon ergonomics and physical wellness, and lectures locally and nationally on this topic. She is delighted that her husband, Dr. David Basi, has rejoined the Northern Star OMS family.

Wisdom teeth, the third molars that emerge in late adolescence or early adulthood, can cause significant oral health complications if left unchecked. Recognizing subtle warning signs such as intermittent pain, swelling, and infection is crucial for preventing more severe issues like impaction, misalignment, and damage to adjacent teeth. Modern diagnostic techniques, including panoramic X-rays and 3D scans, enable precise evaluation and personalized treatment plans, ensuring optimal oral health through early intervention and advanced surgical methods.
