David L. Basi, D.M.D., Ph.D.

Dr. Basi grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and attended the University of Pittsburgh, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering in 1990 and his Doctor of Dental Medicine (D.M.D.) degree in 1994. He went on to complete his Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery training at the University of Minnesota, where he also earned a Ph.D. in Oral Biology in 2002. Following his training, Dr. Basi served for nine years as an Associate Professor in the Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Minnesota.

His research has focused on the effects of bisphosphonates on oral wound healing, and clinically he has a special interest in complex oral reconstruction using dental implants. Dr. Basi is board certified and actively involved in organized dentistry as a member of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the Minnesota Dental Association, and the American Dental Association. He currently serves as Chair of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Foundation, a national nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing the specialty through innovative research, high-quality education, and initiatives that ultimately enhance patient care and safety. Outside of his professional life, Dr. Basi enjoys raising his twin daughters, Josephine and Vivianne, born in 2011. He also has a passion for music, golf, and photography.
